Identified by Brian Shaw as one of the up and coming Strongmen to watch, Mike Jenkins has made a big impression despite his rookie status. He began his athletics career on the football field, but switched to strength training in 2007. That year he would go on to win Maryland’s Strongest Man contest.
In 2012, Jenkins won the Arnold Strongman Classic title, placing him about Brian Shaw and Derek Poundstone in the rankings. And in 2011 and 2012 he finished in the top ten of the WSM finals, and in 2013 he finished in 4th place.
Tragically, Mike died not long after achieving his 4th place ranking, in November 2013. His loss was felt in the Strongman community around the world, and it’s extremely sad to have lost such a promising athlete from the WSM community.
