Day 6: Lifted cars and pulled trucks

The schedule for today had three events penciled in. Athletes had to overcome the given tasks and the weather.

Fingal's Fingers (the second)

The first event of the day were the Fingal's Fingers. This popular event has already been seen in the qualifying rounds.

But this time unbelievable things happend. Sebastian Wenta from Poland continued his strong efforts as he set a new world record at 30,92 seconds. He was the first strongman ever to reach a time under 31 seconds.

But other athletes flipped over he fingers pretty fast as well. Dave Ostlund (USA) finished with 34, 17 seconds. Don Pope (USA) was done after 36,27.

Current WSM Phil Pfister (USA) put in a great show and only need 31,78 seconds. Just barely slower than great rival Mariusz Pudzianowski. The Pole managed to flip all five fingers in 31,15 seconds. Asked about his chances to win the title, he said: "I come back this year. I train hard and win."

Car Deadlift

In difference to the dealift we have seen before, the athletes had to lift up a car in the second event of the day.

Kevin Nee (USA) had to go first and managed to lift the car seven times. Asked about his feelings afterwards, he replied. "I am happy to be in the finals. I am trying my best."

The weather in Anaheim was quite rainy today and Terry Hollands was the one experiencing the effects of it. He slipped while attempting to lift the car. But he was fine and did not injure himself. As a matter of fact he used the aggression for his second attempt and managed to lift the car eight times.

Mariusz Pudzianowski was on a roll and lifted the car ten times. After his attempt he said: "I am in total pain now because it was very heavy. But this is my year."

Phil Pfister only manged two lifts and lost many points, that could be crucial to secure a spot on the podium.

Mark Felix had a goo day and lifted the car eleven times. He just said: "It's fantastic", after his attempt.

Fireengine Pull

The third event of the day was the popular Fireengine Pull. Contestants had to pull a fireengine over a course of 25 meter. The maximum time was 75 seconds. If they reached the finish line, best times won.

Of of the strongmen, reaching the finish line, was Phil Pfister. He needed 53, 93 seconds for it. After his attempt he said: "This year's competition is a true strongmen contest. It is a tough, tough event."

Magnus Samuelsson (Sweden) pulled the truck for the whole 25 meters and the clock stopped at 48,50 seconds.

Mariusz Pudzianowski managed to do the same, but was quicker. He need 41,53 seconds, only to be beaten by Terry Hollands. Britain's Strongest Man 2007 had "one hell of a pull" and was finished after 41,41 seconds.

That was it for today. Tomorrow we will have tha last day of the finals. The set will be in Huntington Beach, starting at 9.30 a.m.
