Today at around 9 a.m. this year's World's Strongest Man competition was declared open. It is set up just in front of the Anaheim Convention Center. All the athletes seemed ready to go as the weather was nice and the audience excited. The first event was the Farmer's Walk & Barrel Carry. The big question was how do favorites like last year's WSM Phil Pfister, USA or Poland's Mariusz Pudzianowski come through the beginning of the competition. The answer is: excellent! Both men showed no weaknesses and reached exceptional times. They enter the next challenge head to head.
Coming up: Fingal's Fingers at 3 p.m. Join us and watch it live!
Florian Trimpl
Asked if there were any surprises during the first event, German strongman Florian Trimpl said: "I was a little surprised that Mariusz showed up that strong right from the beginning." He added: "It is a totally different thing to carry the barrels for example during the familiarisation compared to doing it at the actual event. The adrenaline flows and you have to make sure you don't get too excited."
Pfister going strong
Phil Pfister
During an action packed Fingal's Fingers event Phil Pfister took no prisoners. He showed his fellow competitors why he won the title last year. He flipped over his fingers in an indescribable manner. Dominic Filiou from Canada put in a strong performance, too, flipping all five fingers. Poland's Jarek Dymek had to stop his attempt because of a twisted ancle. But as a strongman he won't give up and so we will see him again tomorrow.
