Terry Hollands showing all how the Fingers should be done!
|
Terry Hollands and Laurence Shahlaei having lead this group from day 1 continued their reign of terror. Shahlaei, a newcomer to BSM, proved he was a competitor to be taken seriously and we look forward to seeing more of him in the final.Hollands continued his untouchable form by winning both the Fingers and Atlas Stones. He raced through the Fingal Fingers course in 39 seconds, beating his previous best of 42. He continued his winning streak by piping Shahlaei to the top slot in the Stones and in doing so completed his 100% record in the qualifiers. Group 3 With one eye on the finals Mark Westaby looked to finish the Fingal Fingers in a quicker time than Terry Hollands. He was the fastest in Group 3, but just 1 second behind Hollands. His rival for top spot Chris Innes performed brilliantly in the afternoon, finishing the Atlas Stones a few seconds ahead of Westaby to ensure his qualification. Group 4 The race for the second qualifying spot in Group 4 turned out to be the story of the day. Darren Sadler booked his place in the finals with a first place finish in Fingal Fingers, so the attention turned to the nail biting competition that was taking place between Francis Kirby and Jay Hughes for the second qualifying spot. Hughes began the day 3 points behind Kirby and knew he had left himself a lot to do. Although Kirby and Hughes both managed 3 of the Fingal Fingers, it was Hughes who was awarded more points due to his quicker time. Before the Atlas Stones only 1 point separated them. Kirby fought hard to lift 4 stones but did so in a relatively slow time compared to Sadler, Louis Maclean and Paul Wood who all lifted 4 in a quicker time. Jay Hughes took to the stage and when he needed it most, came up with his most impressive performance. He planted all 5 stones into place in 30 seconds, the second quickest time of the day. This was good enough to catapult him into the finals. |
